As you decrease the dose, which should happen within a short period of time after starting the med, you should notice it decrease or go away."

I would call another vet and ask their opinion, maybe be even a few other vets. That should get your question answered pretty well.
Good luck, hope your dog is feeling better soon!"
What are side effects of prednisone ? After being diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica I was put on prednisone which offered quick relief. Now in trying to reduce the prednisone dosage, as ordered, I find a return to other medical problems which were previously under control. Have you had similar side effects from prednisone and if so please describe.
Lobo replied: "Sounds to me as though you came off too soon or possibly too abruptly, contact your physician/ specialist and explain the problem- that's what they get paid for and they are in the best position to answer your questions.
What I can tell you from personal experience is that although you don't say what the 'other' med. problems were, Prednisone has no favorites. This steroid is great for your polymyalgia rheumatica and pretty much any muscle joint/ inflammation problems which react quite quickly to it, but depending on the dosage can be real hard to remove, as your body and every disorder you may have come to depend on it as much as food.
As a plus and from what I know PR goes away about as fast as it shows up and with about the same level of reason- none."
Prednisone side effects? I've been prescribed prednisone to reduce inflammation due to Crohn's Disease. I'm doing 40mg for two weeks, and then reducing it by 5 mg every week (so a total of 9 weeks?).
I've been reading the side effects of it, and I'm TERRIFIED of them. I'm all for the weight gain, as Crohn's has caused me to lose far too much weight and I'm stick and bones at the moment. But I'm reading about mood swings, joint pain and osteoperosis and all that stuff. Are these side effects likely on this type of dosage (relatively short and low dosage I think)?
Is there anything I can do to help prevent the ones like joint pain and osteoperosis? Vitamin D capsules? Ensure or Boost? Any ideas?
roxypink123 replied: "I was on 60mg of prednisone when the doctor thought I had Crohn's (now it's unsure). I actually lost weight while on it (went from 96lbs to 85lbs in a month). I suggest taking calcium pills while on it to help prevent osteperosis. Since you are on it only for a short time I doubt any of the long term side effects will effect you. The only side effect I had was headaches for the first week on it. Hope this helps! =)"
How to prevent moon face from prednisone? Ive been on steriods before and my face blew up, i gained some weight and i got acne everywhere. I have to go on it again for crohns disease and i really dont want to go through all the side effects. Im still in high school and i really dont want to worry about the moon face, and all the acne i get. Any tips on trying to reduce the side effects of prednisone? I'd really appreciate it!
wowaddict replied: "The side effects from prednisone are dose and length of treatment dependent. So the quicker you get off them again and the smaller the dose the less likely you will have those side effects. Unfortunately in your case with crohns disease its really important for you to take the meds. Be aware that while on prednisone you will have increased appetite and pay extra attention to how much your eating. You can also talk to your doctor, there are some other meds that are used with crohns that they may be willing to try in place of prednisoine however these meds also have their own side effects."
Prednisone Steroid Side Effects? I took prednisone for 2 days in April. From the 10th of April until the 13th, specifically. I know thats not a long time, but the dosage was pretty high. I was seriously ill, and the Dr. gave them to me to reduce the severe swelling in my throat. Since then I have not had a period (I did have a very short one 10 days after the meds), but I have been entirely unable to lose weight. Any advice on how long this lasts, and why?
I thought I was pregnant at first, but then my boyfriend researched the steroids. I took another steroid for a few months last year and I didnt have a period for 4-5 months. I also took seasonique between July and September of last year. I wonder if all these meds would really effect me this way.
Prednisone steroid side effect question? I am taking prednisone for ulcerative proctitus and one of the side effects is acne, What can I do to stop/reduce it?
Actually no, the only medication I'm on is immuran (I think that's how you spell it) and prednisone. I was hoping for a few suggestions before seeing a dermatologist.
Peter H replied: "It's a difficult one, and you need to talk to your own doctor about it. I presume you have already been tried on an aminosalicylate such as sulfasalazine. Ultimately, if your doctor has decided that you need to be on prednisone, then the only further step would be something drastic like surgery. I'd settle for the acne."
me + books + music = happy replied: "I was on prednisone for a while for a blood disorder, I put on weight, developed a "swollen" looking face, and got severly depressed. They effect people differently, I know of several cases where they have caused stunted growth, osteoperosis, and extreme mood swings.
I have attached a link to a website listing the side effects."
g-momma replied: "Really there is not much you can do while you are taking it, it will continue to come back as long as it is in your system. Another side effect from prolonged use is what they call moon face. This is where your face gets fat and round like a full moon. This side effect also goes away once the medication is stopped."
How long does it take for the side effects of taking Prednisone begin to show? I am 28, and have recently been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. I have just been given a 6 week course of Prednisone, which I have been taking now for 6 days. I am starting on 60mg a day for one week, reducing to 50mg the next week, 40mg the following week and so on reducing down until I stop all together. I am resigned to the fact I will put on weight and get 'moon face', but I am wondering on average when the effects begin to show on this sort of dose and how others on a similar course of Prednisone have been effected. I have read a few horror stories on the internet, and felt it would help me to ask a question in my own words. Thanking everyone in advance!
V replied: "Unfortunately, you tend to not see any 'positive' stories posted. It can take months for these side effects to occur. You maybe could post a positive outcome for people to read. Some people never have a negative reaction. It depends on the amount and the longevity."
Hi iihave been taking prednisone for 3 weeks and i wanna know is that too long? Should i start reducing it? I am taking it for a trijeminal neuralgis and i am reading about all the side effects it has and they are sacring me, especially the osteoporosis since i am feeling pain in my knees, back and ankles.
Prednisone...sinus infection?!? So about 4 weeks ago I got a cold and when it didn't get better in a couple weeks I went to the doctor. He then prescribed amoxacillin fir a sinus infection and when that didn't work after a week prescribed clarithromyc. I just finished the clarithromyc today and am still not better. So i went to the doctor like he told me to do and he prescribed Allegra and Prednisone to try and reduce inflammation and swelling. Sounded good at the time but now looking at all the side effects of Prednisone it has me a little worried. The doc wants me to take 40mg for 4 days, 30 mg for 4 days, 20 mg for 4 days, 10mg for 6 days. Does this seem excessive to anyone? Very rarely have I read people taking this drug for more than 7 days. My cold isn't even that severe its pretty mild I am able to function normally and such I just have drainage all the time and some coughing...I don't really want to take this drug if there are better and healthier alternatives...homeopathic solutions etc? Help!?
